Slow Motion Rain – Showers on Bonaire

The rain looks like bullets shooting down
The rain outside our kitchen door was so heavy and fast that it takes on body and character the human eye does not perceive without a camera to capture the moment.

Repeating Patterns – Kowloon Apartment Windows

An apartment building in Kowloon
When I was in Hong Kong last month, I was amazed at the large apartment buildings everywhere. More fascinating were the multitude of air conditioners sticking out the windows, along with laundry, posters, and more. This one was on Nathan Road in Kowloon.

Orange Owner and Dog – New York Street Scene

A woman and her dog
I was at the 9th Avenue Food Festival in New York City in May when a dash of orange, high and low, caught my eye. Behind this colorful pair are a couple of intrepid explorers, if their clothing is any indication.

Orange and Spicy – Buffalo Wings

Buffalo wings at Hooters
Those who know me know that I love Buffalo wings – chicken wings drenched in a spicy pepper sauce. However, I also happen to have one of the top ranked web pages when you search for “Buffalo Wing Recipe”. You can find the recipe formatted nicely here. When I can’t cook my own, places like Hooters, Pluckers, and Wing Stop provide suitable alternatives.

Texture – Large Salt Crystals

Large salt crystals, up close and personal
We recently bought sea salt from the local producer here on Bonaire and one of the bags contained large salt crystals like the ones pictured, photographed in a vacuum sealed bag with a light behind them.

Bare Lightbulb Glowing – Upon Meat in Kowloon

Cuts of pork for sale at a Kowloon wet market
The wet markets of Hong Kong and Kowloon provide some amazing subjects. Here’s a shot from a local meat vendor offering his wares for sale under the glow of an exposed light bulb.

Almost Nature – Long Flamingo Legs

A young flamingo in a sedimentation pond on Bonaire
Behind the fish farm we visited last week was a sedimentation pond. A juvenile flamingo (as indicated by the still mostly gray plumage and size) has taken up residence there. The black material behind the flamingo is the liner for the pond. Bonaire’s large flamingo nesting preserve is a half mile from where this young guy has made his home. He too has long legs, but unlike yesterday’s models, no high heels.

Street Shot – Long Legs and Models

Models getting ready for a video shoot on a New York street
I had just left an office building on Park Avenue in New York City when I saw a mob of people with cameras, aiming across the street. Their focus were these two long-legged models and their male companion (obscured by the guy in the pink shirt – but the male model didn’t stand out anyhow, so pink shirted guy did me a favor).

Close-Up Flora – A Pitcher Plant

A pitcher plant in a street market in Hong Kong
While in Hong Kong last month we wandered through many street markets. One stall had pitcher plants – a carnivorous plant – for sale.

Reflections of Raindrops – On The Tile At My House

Patterns created by the heavy rain on Bonaire
Heavy rains last week led to quite a bit of water on the patio outside our kitchen door last week. I stood in the doorway trying to capture the pattern created by the rain drops.
