Billionaires Making a Statement – Bill Gates’ Last CES Keynote

Bill Gates pondering his next words
I happened to be covering the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas a few years ago, which included Bill Gates’ final keynote as head of Microsoft. His stage presence involves a lot of hand waving, a marked improvement from his early days of public speaking when he would wobble from left to right and have a nervous warble to his voice.

Brand Icons – Hello Kitty Guitars

Hello Kitty with a Fender Kittycaster
Popular icons end up on most anything, and “Hello Kitty” above all. Here’s the introduction of the Hello Kitty Guitar from Fender. Did you know there are even Hello Kitty personal massage devices (a more civil term) especially designed for women? Instilling brand loyalty from tot to adult, I guess.

Papa Pasku and his Zwaarte Piets pay Bonaire an annual visit
Every year at the end of November, Papa Pasku a.k.a. Sanikolas a.k.a. Sinterklaas a.k.a. St. Nicholas visits Bonaire with his posse of Zwaarte Piets (Black Petes) who will put bad kids in bags and take them to Spain to work in the mines. Or at least that’s one story.

Audience Focus – When the Circus Comes

When the circus comes to Bonaire, attention is rapt
When you live on an island of only 12,000 people (at the time), you usually have to go elsewhere for entertainment. So when a circus visited Bonaire, it was quite the event, especially for the kids.
