Night Light – The Glow of a Massive Fire

The light from the fire at the BOPEC facility lights up the surrounding area
I spent a couple of hours out last night taking photos of the blazing inferno of a giant fuel tank burning at the BOPEC (Bonaire Petroleum Corporation) oil transshipment facility at the north end of the island last night. I particularly liked this image because it shows scale and the sheer amount of visual energy the fire produced, reflecting its light off the entire surrounding countryside. Considering I was about three and half miles away from the fire, the size of this thing is staggering.

Sun in the Lens – Backlit Calla Lily

Calla Lily at Sunset
While almost a silhouette, this calla lily’s fine texture can still be seen as it is backlit by the setting sun on the other side of a curtain at Boston’s L’Espalier restaurant. The angle of the curtain seam provides additional balance and interest.

Texture – Large Salt Crystals

Large salt crystals, up close and personal
We recently bought sea salt from the local producer here on Bonaire and one of the bags contained large salt crystals like the ones pictured, photographed in a vacuum sealed bag with a light behind them.
