When The Real Looks Fake – Birds At A Zoo

Birds at the Bronx Zoo
There’s no question that zoos and animal parks are the easiest place to get pictures of exotic animals. The trick is to always look at the background and make sure you don’t get any of the fencing or man made walls in your shots. However, sometimes the man made environment can create a whole different feel as is shown here. These birds, because of the sparse vegetation and the unusual poses, combined with a stark, monotone background, look like they are stuffed birds on display. But they are in fact live birds, staring towards the heavens in what turns out to be a boringly outfitted environment at the Bronx Zoo, New York.

Larger Than Life – Giant Rat in New York City

Giant Rat in New York City
New York City has a reputation for huge rats, but this one was the biggest I’ve ever seen. Fortunately it was stuffed (and probably fake).

Human Messaging – Baby Indoctrination

I Love New York
Seen at a street fair in New York City – “onesies” (or, as listed at Wikipedia – Infant Bodysuits) with all sorts of messages designed to either indoctrinate parents (or aunts) or babies.

Unexpected People Shots – The Grumpy Clown

Grumpy Clown
Some years ago, when we were in New York City to see the Greatest Show On Earth (the Ringling Brothers Circus), I caught this decidedly grumpy clown. One always thinks of clowns as happy or mischievous. This one looks unhappy and put upon. Perhaps even a touch bored.

Orange Owner and Dog – New York Street Scene

A woman and her dog
I was at the 9th Avenue Food Festival in New York City in May when a dash of orange, high and low, caught my eye. Behind this colorful pair are a couple of intrepid explorers, if their clothing is any indication.

Street Shot – Long Legs and Models

Models getting ready for a video shoot on a New York street
I had just left an office building on Park Avenue in New York City when I saw a mob of people with cameras, aiming across the street. Their focus were these two long-legged models and their male companion (obscured by the guy in the pink shirt – but the male model didn’t stand out anyhow, so pink shirted guy did me a favor).
